When South Africa hosted the Red Bull X-Fighters

Last weekend, I attended the Red Bull X-Fighters finals at the Union Buildings. All I can say is that I thoroughly enjoyed myself, the crowd was alive and involved; the FMX tricks electrifying and the African red soil was all over my face.

Adrenalin filled my entire body, the whole time! I felt like a little kid again :)

Some of these tricks were down right scary!

Seeing references to our South African culture in the competition from the Ndebele print that resonated throughout the stadium to the Zulu shield inspired trophy and crown that was handed out to the champions, filled me with pride.

Best of all, my babies had lots of fun in the dust... and that's all that matters.

Thank you Mandela.

Red Bull X Fighters welcome to Pretoria

Ever since I heard about the Red Bull X Fighters coming to my neighbourhood Pretoria, I've been excited and anxious to see it happen. For weeks, seeing the trucks and  the cranes coming in with that African red soil, transforming my beloved Union Buildings gardens to a world class freestyle motor cross track was just amazing to watch. So today, I went to check out the calm before Saturday's storm, it was beautiful. I looked through the fence and zoomed in as much as I could, I managed to spot a FMX biker doing some tricks, when I asked around I was told that it was Drake McElroy.I stood there, in awe, I just can't wait to the riders, can't wait to see it all. Good luck to my home boy, Nick De Wit.

Oxblood and Turquoise

Although the scuba/neoprene material was in trend a few seasons ago, I personally, have only recently fallen in love with it. Bought this oxblood dress by chance at Makro and it has now become my favorite item for this winter.

Oxblood and Turquoise

It keeps me warm, feels good on the skin and it hugs me at all the right places - I love it.

Easy to maintain, doesn't attract a lot of lint or crease at all, I find that I often have to stop myself from buying all clothing items I come across which are made from the same material.

A few days ago, I paired it with thrifted turquoise court heels, and the look was a hit at the office.

Frugal Living: End of Season Sales

Boys Shirt Short Shoes LoveDilo

The best time to shop for clothes or anything for that matter, is at the end of the season sale, prices are usually slashed to clearance levels.

Its almost winter, however I bought my son this summer shirt and shorts at this years end of summer sale.
I got them in a size that he will be wearing next summer, however it was a great sunny day so I decided that he take full stylish advantage of it and we headed to the park for some play time and Vitamin D.

At the end of this winter, I'll make sure to stock up for next winter.

Frugal Living - Grocery Store Shopping

baby fashion flat lay Ever since I had kids, I visit the clothing aisle whenever I do some grocery shopping. I'll admit, at first I used to doubt the quality of the clothing. I decided to give it a try and I discovered that in reality, it is no different to any other fast fashion outlet actually in some cases its even better. The price is definitely worth the value.
Red Hula HoopWhat I also like most about shopping at the grocery store is that most fashionistas stick to only like buying food at such shops and as result the chances of bumping into someone wearing the same clothes as you are very slim.
It's a great spot for basics and children's clothes, they grow out of those clothes every two weeks, I have learned not buy them expensive items.

In the ever increasing cost of living, this is one way of maintaining ones style... so, go on, live frugally stylish, grab a white tee along with your milk carton ;)

Keedo gets gifts from Grandma

Dress & Bolero - Keedo -- Socks - Checkers

My daughter is lucky to have a loving grandma, who also has great taste. I must admit she buys her clothes that are prettier than the clothes I buy. They make her look like the cute girl that she is. She is gonna look like an angel in this dress.

Having a son as my first baby and having tomboy tendencies myself, really counts against her girlishness when I buy her clothes. There's nothing wrong with being a tomboy, if Shiloh Jolie-Pitt can get away with it, so can she ;)

A Dignified Xhosa Man

I couldnt keep my eyes off this man, there was just something about him that made me want to photograph him.

Maybe it was his demeanor, it was so dignified, so self assured and confident. I think what drew me in the most was his style.
I love the pattern on his shirt, the colours of his hand crocheted hat, the blade inspired belt buckle, the beads and off course the handkerchief and spectacles hanging out of his pocket.

As umakoti, I felt a little insecure about asking an elder for a photo, so I asked my husband to get behind the lens. I'm glad they both agreed to indulge me.

Resolution #33

bronkhorstspruit buddhist temple
I was born in the month of January, so instead of making New Years resolutions, I make birthday resolutions.
I usually have a long list which I give up on by April only to pick up again in November when I see that I'm running out of time to achieve them.

This year I decided that I would stick to just 3, perhaps they'll be easier to stick to. In 2014 I'm aiming to:

1. Simplify my life by decluttering myself of unnecessary possessions.
2. Eat healthy and exercise more, I want my pre-baby figure back, well some of it :-)
3. Live a little more and BE happy, I spend alot time with my family, however this year I would like to reconnect with my old friends and just hangout.

Side Note: It's mid March and I haven't started, but I wont give up, I shall achieve!!! *fistintheair* lol

One more thing - This year I turned 33. Last year, I read a blog which referred to the 33rd birthday as a Jesus year since He died and resurrected at that same age.
I took alot of inspiration from that analogy and as a result, all I want for my birthday is for my fears and insecurities to die and my true self to finally resurrect.

For the love of blogging

Airplane Flying High

It's been over 7 months since I posted, I must admit I missed it, so here I am... back again.

It's funny how, even though I enjoy blogging, the minute my life gets hectic, its one of the first things that I put on the back burner and if one were to look closely, they would notice that all the gaps in my blog occured at a time when I was really busy; planning my wedding, pregnant with and raising my first child and again when I was rearing my second baby.

Yes, its disheartening when the traffic slows down and when it eventually stops, but blogging is way more than just analytics.

Blogging is empowering, it democratisizes knowledge that was previously reserved to an elite few. You learn about things that you would'nt have otherwise been privy to. You learn about what people think, how they live and sometimes what people want you to believe about how they live ;-) it is my personal lesson on Sociocultural Anthropology.

I love blogging, I love reading blogs, I love bloggers too... and so... I will keep coming back.
